The staff of the Archive at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery assists local patrons researching materials in the archive and provides limited services to out-of-town patrons. Copies of biographical information included in the Obituary Files (1977-present), Biographical Files, or major Larimer County History books will be sent upon request. The cost for each copy is $0.15; payment for copies can be made by checks payable to the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery and mailed to the Museum address.
The Archive staff will conduct look-ups on microfilm if an exact date is known, but we cannot do extensive searching on microfilm. All requests will be processed on a time-available basis; replies may have a varying response time due to the unique nature of questions received.
Other informational requests will be referred to the Larimer County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 9502, Fort Collins, 80525-9502. You may also access the Larimer County GenWeb site. Additionally your local library may process Interlibrary Loan requests for obituaries on microfilm and history books from the Poudre River Public Library District. Please contact your local library for the ILL request form.
Archive Offsite Storage Retrieval
Due to limited space at the Archive, many resources, particularly special collections and bound newspapers, are held in an offsite storage facility. If you are interested in viewing a specific collection, please call the Archive staff prior to your visit to request retrieval and make an appointment to research these collections. Retrieval from storage typically takes two to three business days.
Donations
The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery welcomes and appreciates donations of materials of such as documents, photographs, yearbooks, and city directories that are of local interest and essential to the development of the Archive's collections. If you are interested in making a donation to the Archive, contact the curator for more information. Please note that the Archive cannot engage in indiscriminate acquisition. Accessions must be the best available at the time, fill a recognized need in existing collections, and be adequately documented as determined by the Curator of Archives and in accordance with the Collections Policy.
