City Directories

City directories provide a wealth of information for historical research. The directories generally contain four major sections: the Directory Listing of people's names and businesses with their addresses; a Streets Section that lists street addresses with their occupants; a Business Section listing types of businesses and owners; and the Rural Section listing only the people who live in the rural areas.

Recently, over 100 Fort Collins and Larimer County directories dating from 1902 to 2005 have been scanned and are now available for research online. Several telephone books from the 1960s to 2002 may also be accessed online. These scanned directories are not keyword searchable; rather, they must be viewed page by page, just as one would "flip" through a physical copy of the directory.

Additionally, physical copies of each of the scanned directories are available for perusal at the Archive. Simply ask the staff when you visit the archive!
